Summer’s here, it’s hot and lots of us are having fun at the beach and the river, and in swimming pools.
Shops are selling temporary and inflatable pools which are great for cooling off. But it’s important to keep safe, and most importantly, keep our loved ones safe. This year’s holiday drowning toll is a sad reminder that New Zealand has one of the worst drowning rates in the world.
It can take just30 seconds for a child to drown. For that reason, pools with a depth of more than 40 centimetres are not allowed in Accessible Properties homes.
It’s against the law to have a pool with a water level above 40 centimetres unless it is appropriately fenced. We are committed to safety and are strictly enforcing this legal requirement.
The best way to make sure you are following the regulations is to contact your Tenancy Manager before purchasing a pool.
Stay safe everyone!
